Sony announces the Xperia A4 in Japan, the future Z4 compact

Sony has silently announced a new smartphone, the Xperia A4, in its home country of Japan for NTT Docomo. The device has a model number SO-04G, and could be launched as the Xpera Z4 compact in future. Recall that the Xperia Z1f with model number SO-02F was later launched as the Xperia Z1 compact globally. Same goes for the Xperia A2 with model number SO-04F, which was also launched globally as the Xperia Z3 compact.

Specs wise, the Xperia A4 has a lot in common with the Z3 compact. It features a 4.6-inch Triluminos display with a resolution of 1280 x 720pixels, quad-core snapdragon 801 chipset clocked at 2.5GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 20-megapixel rear camera with Sony's G LEN with f/2.0 aperture, 2.2-megapixel front camera, Android 5.0 Lollipop and a 2,600mAh battery. It comes in four colors: Gray, Pink, Blue, and White.

The device will be available via NTT Docomo starting from Mid-June and there's no word on when the device will come to other markets worldwide as the Xperia Z4 Compact.
